Blueye TUAV and photogrammetric applications

Bluebird Aero System Ltd. has developed a unique, comprehensive, low cost, end-to-end solution for monitoring and protecting areas of interest. The solution includes the Blueye™ UAV that was specifically designed for military and civilian usages and a photogrammetric system (airborne payload and a ground station).

The system enables the supply of accurate maps and orthophotos within hours or days from order. Moreover, the maps may include specific required information like changes detection, altitude levels, etc. The technology automatically manages all the process from the imagery to the completed actionable products that includes imagery, maps, orthophotos, control points and a 3D stereoscopic model of the area of interest. The system provides those products independent of any previous geographic and photogrammetric database. 

The Blueye™ UAV is a friendly and easy to use platform. Its unique capability to accurately follow a predefined route enhances the accuracy of the products. Moreover, Bluebird’s UAV can repeatedly cover specific areas of interest and thus supply a sequence of high resolution and accurate maps and geographic details of the same specific area at different time periods.

The Blueye photogrammetric system delivers the following products:  

1. Photogrammetry
A digital Orthophoto is the necessary for many military and civilian applications.
An orthophoto is an aerial photograph that has been rectified such that it is equivalent to a map of the same scale. It is a photographic map that can be used to measure true distance, an accurate representation of the earth's surface.
Digital orthophotos are used by government agencies for land-use planning, environmental management, emergency services, homeland security and many other applications.

2. Change Detection
The change- detection system mounted on the Blueye unmanned aerial vehicle, is capable of automatically locating improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other object in the specific area of interest, by comparing two high resolution orthophotos and flagging out the changes. The change detection analysis can be done near real-time while the UAV is still in the air, as the UAV has the ability to transfer the imagery data through its datalink. This capability allows for the production of the deliverable products in short time and thus improving the operational response.

3. GIS (Geographic information systems)
The suggested system provides the capability to analyze and present all the information that has geographic coordinates, to enable the users to display all the required information about the area of interest, overlaid on the digital Orthophoto.

4. 3D elevation data and visualization
The 3D elevation data is derived from the traditional photogrametric process and delivers surface data including digital elevation models and digital terrain, for visualization of the terrain and detected new objects.A 3D model of the area of the interest can then be built, to enable virtual tour and inspection.

5. Cartography
The system is capable of generating maps and reports with all the information about the changes and actionable.

The Blueye photogrammetric system is designed to achieve the following goals:

Military Use:

Detect changes that take place in the area which is considered as preferred area by the hostike groups. Follow the activities of hostile groups and display the results on accurate maps to the units and the head quarters, as well as create geographic database with all the details for better and efficient military response.

Borders patrol in order to prevent smuggling and illegal crossing. The Blueye UAV with its unique photogrammetric capability and the ability to accurately follow a predefined route automatically detect the smugglers area and chosen routes along the border.

Supply the most updated intelligence information to the command level, by providing high accuracy updated Orthophotos, based on imges taken only an hour earlier of the area of interest with the specific targets for attack. 

Escort and Protecting convoys in hostile areas by detecting the suspected objects along the road before and during the convoys transportation.

Allow military unites for independent and immediate intelligence for improved operational response.

Civilian Use:

Monitor, coordinate and assist the activities of local and governmental agencies for monitoring and protecting natural resources. E.g. to detect unauthorized cutting trees that may cause landslides in mountainous areas, detecting resources theft, etc.

Provide the governmental and municipal authorities with orthophotos of urban' agricultural and industrial districts in order to assist in the design and development of large scale projects, such as reconstructions of sewage systems, designing of water supply systems, building a new port, new neighborhoods, and so on.

Monitor and coordinate the civilian municipal authorities activities in order to combine them into the big picture of governmental plans and allow fruitful dialogue between various governmental and local authorities.

Monitor national strategic facilities, such as oil pipes and facilities; nature reserves that draw international attention.
