Our UAVs at Indian Army’s North Command North-Tech Event

Cyient-BlueBird Joint Venture Wins its First Order from Indian Army for SpyLite Mini UAS — The Only System to Pass the Army’s Extremely High Altitude Trial

Taking off from very high altitude in extreme weather conditions, the SpyLite flew over the high mountainous landscape, performing all its missions successfully

Hyderabad, India, and Kadima, Israel, September 04, 2018: Cyient Solutions & Systems Pvt. Ltd. (CSS), a joint venture between Cyient Ltd. and BlueBird Aero Systems, Israel, today announced that it has received its first supply order from a unit of the Indian Army for SpyLite mini UAV systems for high altitude aerial surveillance.

 CSS offered, and successfully demonstrated, its flagship mini UAV system, SpyLite, which was the only one that met end-user requirements to conduct real-time surveillance and target acquisition at very high altitude and in extreme weather conditions. The SpyLite was also the only UAV system to complete and pass the trial.

SpyLite is an advanced, combat-proven, electric, mini unmanned aerial system. It is optimized to offer covert, extended range real-time visual intelligence. Fully autonomous, from launch to accurate parachute recovery, the system delivers enhanced reliability even in severe weather conditions, assuring long endurance, high operational availability.

During trials, the SpyLite emerged as a mature system, incorporating unique capabilities and delivering superior performance as compared to systems in the mini-UAV class. The SpyLite demonstrated quick operational readiness supported by launch and recovery in high altitudes and harsh terrains. Its low visual and acoustic signature underlined its suitability for covert operations. Using high-end payloads, the system delivered high quality day and night videos, for an impressive control range and ensured a high level of safety with automatic return home and recovery in “no communication” situations.

The system also demonstrated “operation on the move” while the operator controlled the UAV from a moving vehicle until finally recovering it.

Dual-Hybrid, Vertical Takeoff and Landing ThunderB – A Dramatic Leap into the Future of Tactical & Maritime UAS

The VTOL capability adds another layer of operational flexibility to this advanced, long range, long endurance, tactical UAS.

Kadima, Israel, August 20th , 2018 – BlueBird Aero Systems – A leader in the design, development and production of Micro, Mini and tactical UAS,  revealed a new VTOL Capability of its long-range, long-endurance tactical UAS: ThunderB (~30Kg, 4m wing-span), only 2 months after exposing an exceptional Cargo Release Capability of the ThunderB UAV at Eurosatory 2018.

The new dual-hybrid ThunderB VTOL is capable of taking off vertically from a very small ground clearing or a small marine vessel by using its quad vertical electrical motors, transition to a level flight powered by its long endurance horizontal fuel-injection engine, and transitioning back to a precise, vertical landing after completing its operational mission while requiring much smaller logistical footprint than required using standard launch and recovery system. This VTOL capability is achieved by adding a VTOL kit comprising of two booms, with four vertical electrical motors, connected under the ThunderB’s wings, similar to the way the ThunderB carries its releasable cargo capsules.

 

The ThunderB VTOL combines the advantages of a Fixed-Wing UAV (long endurance, high speed, Strong wind penetration, large area coverage, ability to glide in case of emergency), with the advantages of a Multi-Rotor (ability to takeoff/land in confined areas, ease of transport).

With the VTOL capabilities, and its unprecedented combination of long-range (150Km), long endurance (12 hours in VTOL configuration), advanced Full-HD real-time video image and its ability to operate in Com-Jam and GPS denied environments, the ThunderB VTOL can take the lead in tactical land and maritime operations, where takeoff/land areas are limited, like on a ship in mid-sea, on an oil rig or in a small forest clearance, for military, HLS, protecting exclusive economic zones (EEZ) and economical waters as well as civilian applications.

New Advanced Generation of BlueBird’s Micro UAS – MicroB

At the DEFEXPO 2018 exhibition, the company revealed its newest generation MicroB Micro-UAS

Kadima, Israel, April 2, 2018 – BlueBird Aero Systems – a leader in the design, development and production of Micro, Mini and Small tactical UAS and peripheral equipment – will reveal publicly the newest generation, enhanced performance, MicroB Micro-UAS, a micro UAS, providing unprecedented Mini-UAV capabilities in a Micro-UAV form factor, while maintaining its very competitive and affordable price, at DEFEXPO 2018, April 11-14, Chennai India, at Booth # 8.1.3a.

 

The new, enhanced capabilities, MicroB-UAS is following the footsteps of the mature, operational, advanced existing MicroB. The new generation weighing approximately 2Kg, farther pushes the envelope in the Micro-UAS niche providing unprecedented endurance of over up to 2.5 hours, advanced communication capable controlling the MicroB up to a range of 10 Km, providing airborne data relay and performing “Hot Swap” while transmitting HD quality imagery.

Eurosatory 2018: BlueBird Revealed a New Cargo Release Capability of the ThunderB UAS for Performing Precise, Surgical Missions

At Eurosatory, BlueBird Aero Systems – a leader in the design, development, and production of Micro, Mini and Small Tactical UAS, revealed a new Cargo Release capability of the ThunderB; a small, long range, long endurance, tactical UAS.     

 

According to Ronen Nadir, CEO of BlueBird Aero systems, “We are proud to reveal the new, exciting cargo release capability of the ThunderB UAS at Eurosatory 2018. This remarkable addition is the result of lessons learnt from operational needs required by our operational customers and was designed to extend the capabilities delivered by our field-proven systems. This capability, on board the cost-effective, reliable, high performance ThunderB UAS, enables to perform new missions associated with the modern battlefield, the HLS requirements, as well as with the commercial market.”

 ThunderB is a small, innovative, long-endurance tactical UAS (~30Kg, 4m wing-span) that creates a new niche in the tactical UAS arena providing capabilities previously found only in much larger UAVs usually with weight of above 150Kg.

The ThunderB UAV has the ability to carry small cargo units under each wing, and release the cargo automatically or by a GCS command. The cargo is carried and released by an integrated, electro-mechanical release mechanism. The released cargo is housed in an aerodynamic enclosure (capsule) to reduce the drag to the minimum.

Upon automatic release of the capsule, it will reach the target with high accuracy following a ballistic trajectory. The cargo capsules can also be dropped with the aid of a small parachute to prevent damage to fragile items.

 The ThunderB Cargo Release ability can be used in numerous missions and scenarios such as:

  • Lifesaving search and rescue (S&R) missions where after finding the objective, it is important, as a first response, to provide rescue measures i.e communication device (phone, portable radio, etc), a bottle of water, floating device, etc.
  • Dropping of essential material such as drugs in an epidemic situation
  • Scattering small ground intelligence sensors to achieve wide ground coverage

 The ThunderB supports a wide range of optional payloads including a triple sensor, three-gimbal gyro-stabilized payload, with a Cooled thermal imager, HD day color camera and Laser Pointer and BlueBird’s RGB, NIR and Radiometric photogrammetric payloads. The ThunderB can also be integrated with other payloads such as non-imaging payloads, small SAR and others.

With its long endurance capability (up to 24 hours), its extended control range (150Km), and its variety of optional payloads, the ThunderB is an ideal solution for long, covert, low signatures ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) and/or tactical mapping on demand (TMOD) missions.

Cyient and Bluebird Aero Systems Sign Joint Venture to Offer UAV Systems to Indian Defence and Industry

The JV underlines the commitment of both partners to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and will supply advanced micro, mini, and tactical UAV systems

Cyient and BlueBird signed the JV agreement today at DefExpo 2018. In attendance were stakeholders from both companies and distinguished representatives from the industry and the Ministry of Defence.

Cyient Solutions & Systems will indigenize, manufacture, assemble, integrate, and test advanced UAV systems at its production facilities in Hyderabad by leveraging Bluebird’s technology and manufacturing know-how. Cyient Solutions & Systems, supported by BlueBird, will also provide comprehensive aftermarket services, including spares, repairs, maintenance, and support to end users across India.
